Calcium for bones
Calcium is vital for strong bones because it gives them strength and rigidity. Our bodies contain about one kilogram of this important mineral, 99% of which is found in our bones.
700mg of calcium should be enough to meet the daily requirements for most of the adult population (97.5%). It is advised that an intake of calcium below 400mg per day is likely to be insufficient. We don’t need to worry if our calcium intake does not quite reach the recommended 700mg a day - it is the average daily amount that is important.
Most people should be able to get enough calcium through healthy eating, without the need for additional supplements.
